WHAT IS THE SILC?

The State of Alabama Independent Living Council (SILC) is a registered 501 C (3) non-profit organization governed by persons with various types of disabilities from all across the state. The role of the SILC is to identify and remedy societal barriers that impedes the independence of persons with disabilities. The SILC also collaborates with centers for independent living, with the unified goal of improving the lives of those with disabilities.

Our Impact & Operation

SILC activities include:

  • Quarterly public meetings.

  • Educational and outreach efforts.

  • Providing information to public officials, state agencies, local organizations and individuals.

  • Collaborating with centers for independent living statewide to empower individuals with disabilities.

  • Disability advocacy.

  • Information gathering.
